Day 1- 30 days to a Grateful Life

If the only prayer you say in your life is ‘Thank You’ that would suffice.”– Meister Eckhart
How many of us have cribbed about the food we eat, the area we live, transport that we use, the job we do, about our relationships?  I am sure we all do it, knowingly or unknowingly we tend to take things, people and relationships for granted. Over a period of time we tend to focus on the things we lack and fail to acknowledge the abundance we have.
But as Oprah Winfrey says, “Be thankful for what you have and you will end up having more. But if you concentrate on what you don’t have, you’ll never, ever have enough”, being grateful for what we have is the tool to strengthen relationships, improve health and to lead a stress free life.
Off late lot of changes are happening in my life and though I know that “Change is the only thing constant”, I am finding it difficult to accept this change. There is a strange confusion and I am struggling to find my way, but I am sure this is just a phase and it will pass away.
Yesterday I realized that, I’ve completed 150 posts in my blog and it truly is a big achievement for me. I am blessed to have made few friends in my virtual journey. That’s when I thought about this concept of “Gratitude”.
“Gratitude” is being thankful for the small things that matter the most in our lives. Beginning today for next 30 days (till 3rd November, 2012) this blog will speak about all the things I am grateful for. This is somewhat similar to this, which I did last year.
So are you ready for the “30-day Gratitude Therapy”.
Here it goes the first day
  1. I am truly grateful to my “Alarm clock”; I wonder what I would have done without it. It helps me to wake up on time…J
  2. I am truly grateful to this cute little sparrow who visited me today morning.
  3. I am truly grateful to have had a bowl full of “Museli and a hot cup of Green Tea”. It was truly refreshing
  4. I am truly grateful to the “Rickshaw-walla’s” in Mumbai. I know at times they are rude, they don’t budge, and they fight…but just imagine what happens when they go on a strike just for half a day.
  5. I am truly grateful to the “Central Railways”. No matter, how much I crib about the crowded trains, I must also admit that I am in love with them. It’s a twelve year Love-Hate relationship.
  6. I am truly grateful to my “Colleagues”; they are always there to make me smile. I enjoy being with them for 8 hours and they are like my “Second Family”
  7. I am truly grateful to “The guy who makes tea in our office canteen”. A cup of tea is all you need during stressful situations.
  8. I am truly grateful to my “Laptop”, which helps me to type this.
  9. I am truly grateful to “MS-Office”; I can’t imagine a life without Word and Excel.
  10. I am truly grateful to “Vodafone Internet Card”, which helps me to stay connected with the virtual world.
Thank You..!!
Huh…! It’s truly a big challenge to focus on the positives and be grateful for what we have. But I am glad, that I could do it. I would also want you readers to take part in it (of course if you wish toJ).
All you need to do is follow these rules:
  • For next thirty days write about the things you are grateful for (it maybe in your blog or in your personal journal, not necessary that you write ten things.)
  • Do post your link in the comment box, if you have a blog and have started this therapy.
  • You can even post pictures, in case you are unable to write.
Keep Smiling and be Grateful,
Gayatri
PS: As always, your comments motivate me. Do let me know what you guys feel about this initiative

  1. Gayu,

The quote is very right. I agree with what Oprah says. One needs to see the positive side and only then one can have peace of mind. Thanks for sharing this.

    Take care

  2. 🙂

Such an inspiring post Gayu.. we seriously need to concentrate on what we have rather than what we dont. As Mahatma Gandhi had said In this world there is enough for everyone's need but not for anyone's greed…!

Loving this gratitude series.. take care and keep smiling 🙂
